~ 8 brilliant books I wish had been around when I was a child ~
#8brilliantbooks I WISH HAD BEEN AROUND WHEN I WAS A CHILD...
This was so much harder than I thought it would be to choose just eight books!
First off, I just picked a huge number of picture books I love now as an adult, but then took another look and wondered if I would have actually loved them as a child? This is a funny phenomenon I find as a book blogger - thinking about books that I love and that are amazing teaching resources and books that children love and that ignite a spark within them. There are definitely some that do both…. A blog for another day perhaps?
I also thought about books that I might not have immediately chosen to read as a child but that I wish I could gift to my younger self to build her knowledge, confidence or resilience.
What to choose? In the end l went for a bit of a mixture.
Some that I think I would have loved reading are Roar, Amari and The After School Detective Club, with their magical and mystery themes and all being part of a series.
Next up, I think I would have really benefitted as a child from the current focus on social and emotional themes in narratives so the Tom Percival series, The Dot and All the Ways To Be Smart are picture books I think would have been really beneficial for me to read.
Finally, I loved History and Art so I've included two non-fiction books which I hope would have given me a much more rounded perspective of these subjects beyond the white male canon at an earlier age.
