8 brilliant books to read after black history month and for the rest of the year

October was #blackhistorymonth and through this #8brilliantbooks recommendations I hope to highlight important books that help ensure that it is not just a month and that Black history is taught in schools as part of all history - celebrating important figures, facing uncomfortable facts and having important discussions.

I squeezed an extra book in as the Black and British MG is a book I have found so helpful as a teacher when designing the history curriculum, whereas the picture book is more accessible to pupils across the whole school.

I am very interested to see how schools are developing their curriculum to include more/very uncomfortable aspects of Empire and to make a conscious effort to work against the whitewashing of history that has been seen in the past.
